Samuel Robert Ramsey arrived on June 13, weighing 8 lbs 9 oz and 22 inches long.
He is now 7 weeks old and we are so in love! This post is overdue, but since I am just beginning my blog I had to post his birth story. So the story goes..
Sam measured on the large side throughout my pregnancy. So, since we knew we were going to have a big baby Dr. Favor thought it would be best for me to be induced at 39 weeks. My induction was set for Wednesday, June 13. Drew and I were so excited and could hardly wait to meet our new addition. At my 38 week appointment Dr. Favor checked to see if I was dilated and I wasn't. To help make sure the induction went smoothly she scheduled me to come in Tuesday night to get the process started.
Tuesday June 12th arrived before we knew it. We had a really nice family day. Spent the morning with George enjoying his favorites, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Barney. Drew went and picked up Chick Fil A for lunch while I made sure we were all packed and ready to go. We arrived at the hospital at 4:45 and I was so nervous. I'm not sure why, since it was our second baby and I knew what to expect. Both my mom dad as well as Drew's mom met us at the hospital as well. Around 5:15 Dr. Favor came in to give me a drug called Cervadil. This is where a balloon is inserted to help your body prepare for labor and start dilating. This was the most painful part of labor and delivery! I was so glad once it was over. The rest of the evening we just hung out in the room, watched TV and tried to get as much rest as we could. It was hard to sleep because I was so excited/nervous!
In the morning my night nurse came in to wake me up before her shift ended. She was so sweet and wanted to make sure I was able to take a shower and get ready before everything got started. I was so happy to be able to do this! Around 8:00 Dr. Favor came in to check me. The Cervadil worked and I was 4 cm dilated! At this point she broke my water and started the Pitocin. This kicked in quickly! In no time I was having strong contractions. I knew that once you get an epidural there is the risk of it stopping your labor, so I wanted to hold out on meds. for as long as possible. I only made it about a hour and a half. By 9:30 the contractions had become more than I could handle and I requested an epidural. At this point I was 5 cm dilated and moving right along! After the epidural I felt much better!
This is where things get a little crazy. Around 11:15 Drew decided he was hungry and wanted to leave and go grab something to eat. He asked my nurse, Deb, how long she thought we had before baby Sam's arrival. She said she wouldn't know until she checked to see how much progress I had made. Since it had been about 2 hours she decided it was time to check. Good thing she did! I was fully dilated and we were ready to proceed with delivery! I had no idea, and didn't feel a thing. Thing's are a little fuzzy from here because we moved so quickly. Dr. Favor was paged and she rushed down for us to begin. This all took place in about 10 min. It was amazing how fast everything went, and how I didn't feel a thing! (which I am very thankful for) Samuel Robert was born at 11:33 a.m. We could not have been more excited and thankful for our beautiful, healthy son.

For the past few weeks:
- We have had lots of visitors. I have been terrible at taking pictures so far, so I am sorry that I don't have many to post on here of our friends and family!
- Sam is such a wonderful baby. For the most part he is very calm, until George starts running around which will stir him up.
- He is a great little nurser! Sam eats every three hours during the day, and only wakes me up for one middle of the night feeding :)
- Sam is such a little chunk! He was back to his birth weight by one week, and at 4 weeks weighed 11 and a half pounds
- He loves his bath! Sam has never cried during bath time. He is always so alert, and really enjoys splashing in the water.
